CGA Courses for PD

Register Today! – limited materials available, on a first-come, first-served basis.

As a CGA you are apart of a distinguished group of accounting professionals who realize the importance of continuing professional development. CGA members may register for courses offered through the CGA Program of Professional Studies as professional development.

CGA Manitoba’s use of innovative educational technologies provides you with an efficient learning environment. Internet and business software technologies offer the advantages of independent and collaborative courses. Our integrated technology allows you to be networked, from virtually any location, with course directors, tutors and colleagues studying in the CGA program.

COURSES AND SCHEDULES

Although all courses in the program are available to members, Advanced Personal & Corporate Taxation (TX2); and External Auditing (AU2) are the most requested as they are requirements for Public Practice registration. For a full listing of courses available, please refer to the 12/13 Course Offerings Schedule.

COURSE FEES

Course fees are structured to include the cost of textbooks, module notes, web-based resources, and educational software. Exemptions include the CICA Handbook and text/software provided with prerequisite courses.

COMPLETING ASSIGNEMNTS AND QUIZZES

CGA members are required to complete assignments and/or quizzes in accordance with the assigned student schedule, which is included with course materials.

All CGA courses use the Blackboard Online Learning Environment (OLE). The OLE offers CGA members and students an efficient and flexible online learning experience that is available from any location. The OLE site offers access to course support resources, assignments and related information. A guide outlining the OLE as well as important information pertaining to your course will be sent to you along with your course materials.

EXAMINATIONS

CGA members are not required to take examinations for the Program of Professional Studies, and for that reason are not assessed an examination fee.

However, if a CGA member chooses to write a course examination, the member is required to inform the Association of this with their registration, and pay the additional examination fee per course.

CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (CPD) HOURS

Upon successful completion of the course selected, it is the CGA member's responsiblity to obtain their assignment and/or quiz marks from Blackboard for their CPD reporting records.

It is also the CGA member's responsibility to record the CPD hours attained, both verifiable and non-verifiable, by using MyCGA Web Services (www.mycgawebservices.org).

To claim CPD hours for courses taken through the Program of Professional Studies, please do so using the V2.1 and V2.1 (three-credit courses) or V2.2 and NV2.2 (six-credit courses).

Examples of how to claim the Assignments and Exam, Assignments only, and Self-Study have been included below.

TX2 is considered to be equivalent to a six-credit post-secondary course. For a six-credit post-secondary course, a member can claim up to six hours per week of assignment time. The assignments being completed over a
ten-week period, would therefore allow a member to claim up to a maximum of 60 hours under the V2.2 category.
Any additional study hours can also be claimed under the NV2.2 category up to a maximum of 60 hours.
